Website Updates!

Welcome to my new website! This is my personal website that I've been experimenting with for the last two or so years. For majority of this time I'd been using github pages to host the static pages displaying my projects. If your've used github before then you can understand how restrictive github is, of course this is justifiably so. Speaking of github, I've noticed a general decline in performance and uptime since their aquisition from Microsoft. Along with this Github is not open source even though it hosts most of the internets open source content, another thing that annoys me is the recent increase of AI related "tools" and other shitwares that add no real content to projects. To combat this I've moved over to SourceHut which is a people-first open-source alternative to github. Sourcehut is lovely and also activley blocks AI scraping, keeping projects safe from violent AI site scrapeing.

However with Sourcehut being less popular in comparison to sites like Codeberg or Github -- theyre very stteamlined to a set of limited features. This list does not include a github pages style hosting system, this is ok. Recently I purchased this domain that you're viewing on right now. I bought it for cheap and spent the weekend figuring out how to route a webserver from my local home server onto my new domain using cloudflare tunnels. This method meant I could negate hosting fees and I could protect my data localy with an ease-of-access that cloud hosting doesnt provide.

This page was prototyped in Python using the Flask library. Personally for larger projects I like to prototype in a basic/toy language like Python before eventually going back and re-writing everything in a more advanced language. Using Python lets me quickly plan and test systems on the fly without commiting fully. I wrote this page fully in C using sqlite3 for the database backend. This entire page is a hybrid webserver that can load not just static files but also pre-defined dynamic pages written in C/HTML.
